The Starksboro Farmers' Cooperative Association operated the creamery just north of the village from 1918 until 1928 when it was sold to D. E. Hinman and George Polly
The stock certificate to the right was issued to Olive Carpenter, mother of Jesse Carpenter, one of the incorporators.

Frank N. Hill operated a store in the Village of Starksboro from 1869 until it was sold to the partnership of Carpenter & Hawkins.
This letter to Reed & Patrick in Hinesburg, Vermont about buying maple sugaring supplies was written by Carpenter & Hawkins on F N Hill letter head with the old name crossed out and Carpenter & Hawkins written in and dated March 16, 1887.

Many Starksboro, Vermont residents served Vermont in the War of the Rebellion. Joel Carpenter was one of these and wrote this letter home as part of the first solders of the Union Army to enter Richmond, Virginia. Rosters of Joel Carpenter and other Starksboro residents can be seen at Vermont in the Civil War.
