Starksboro Meeting House
Planned Projects

The Board has identified various projects in need of being done to maintain, improve, and restore the Meeting House.

The Board's traditional fundraising activities are part of the monies that are put towards improvements.  In addition, grants and generous donations are a vital addition to money raised by Board for these projects.

All support through grants and donations is always appreciated.

The Belfry

The siding on the upper section of the belfry is "Masonite" clapboards in poor condition and not capable of holding paint.  Roofing on the belfry, now almost 30 years old, it is in poor condition and starting to leak.

These repairs are the current priority of the Board.  Work on the belfry is expensive due to staging needs.  The work has been broken out into phases due to the high cost of this type of work.

The first phase, which is to repair and stabilize the lower original section of the belfry, was completed in the summer of 2007 at a cost of $12,000.

The second phase which is to repair and stabilize the upper section is awaiting funding.  The cost of this work is estimated at between $35,000 and $40,000.

Exterior Painting

Exterior painting is an ongoing activity.  The front and north walls are the next to be painted.

The Sanctuary

The sanctuary was last papered in the late 1960's.  The paper is now loose in many areas.  It is also missing along the top of the wall in several spots.  The current condition of the wallpaper limits the use of the building for various events such as weddings.

The Board has started the process of removing the existing wallpaper to paint the sanctuary as an interim low cost alternative to re-papering due to funding limitations.  This would improve the appearance of the sanctuary and hopefully increase use of the building for special events such as weddings.

The longer term desire is to repaper the sanctuary.  This interim work will properly prepare the walls for wallpaper when funds are available.  The cost to re-paper in the range of $7,500.
